David's Story

I attended 3 high schools including Rio Grande and Manzano in Albuquerque, and Kubasaki High in Okinawa Japan. Through out high school, I played trumpet and guitar. I sang in two bands, a folk group that was very successful, a rock band and we played mostly for parties. I loved playing in a group. I really enjoyed playing trumpet in the Kubasaki school play, Bye, Bye Birdy. I enjoyed going to the beach and surfing with my friends. I can't say that I was too interested in doing school work. I studied Karate, studied guitar, and hung out at the Plaza Teen Club. At Manzano, I enjoyed playing in the school talent show near the time I graduated. Also, enjoyed very much going to school with my friends from Jackson J.H. and part of my early days at Manzano. Graduation with my friends is a great memory. I wasn't at Manzano and Rio Grande only 1/2 of my soph yr and again the beginning of my senior yr. In between, I was in Okinawa. I met so many wonderful and interesting people at all three schools and would love to reconnect with as many as I can. I still play guitar and sing a bit. My interests in music have included the folk and rock music of the sixties, and the hard (classic) rock of the 70's. I still love that music. Now I LOVE the Blues and I study jazz guitar. I have often thought that the most wonderful times of my life was being able to experience living on Okinawa and the friends I met there. I would love to meet them again to see whatever happened to the friends I loved. In Albuquerque, being at two schools which included two different cultures was great for me too. I learned so much about people and cultures I will always remember fondly. I was in the Navy during the Viet Nam war and was stationed on river boats in the Mekong Delta. It was exciting to say the least. I survived but was later hurt on the mess deck (kitchen) of a guided missal destroyer. How odd is that? That injury now has flared up and caused me to retire from my profession as a Quality Assurance Engineer. I contracted my services to the Air Force procurement division and the Dept. of Energy. It was a great job. If you remember me, please give me a shout. I have missed my friends so very much and times we shared. I'd love to hear from anyone that knew me in school. I listen to music, of course. Playing and writing music and photography are good pass times. I like to take my dogs for a walk. rounded. I always wanted to be a concert guitarist and singer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a pipe dream idea. As it turns out, they were wrong as I have been there and back. I still play successfully at my church, recording with other musicians and writing music, poetry and prose. There aren't many times I feel like I need to blow off steam. If something is bothering me, I seek council, pray, and do something to get my mind of things that give me stress. A couple of other things that help me deal with life in general is studying Spanish, keep learning about guitar playing (of course), water aerobics, day trips to cool places in NM. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have music, preparedness, smarts and God to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I do have a few heros, probably too many to mention. However, I think my biggest hero is my Pastor, who led me to find Jesus Christ and salvation. I've lived all over the place. Growing up, I couldn't count how many times my family moved around. After graduation, I move to Las Vegas, NV to enjoy the music scene before joining the Navy. The Navy sent me to San Diego (I love it there to this day), Viet Nam, New London, Conn., Hawaii, Wake Island, Midway Island (water there is extremely clear and beautiful), Japan. After the Navy, lived in Las Vegas, NV, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque. Work for the DOE, took me coast to coast. DOE took me to work in Los Alamos Lab, Carlsbad, NM, Las Vegas, NV. You might say I love Las Vegas and you'd be right. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Curtis Malaya, because he was my best friend in Okinawa, guitar teacher, hang out friend and band member. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Goldie Barela, because she was my best friend at MonzanoJackson J.H and at Monzano . The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Billy Padillia, because My best friend at Harrison JH and Rio Grande H.S.. I love Baseball and football. My teams are LA Dodgers, Isatopes, and The Broncos. I love Bible stories, old movies, US and world history, cop shows, current affairs, science, photography and my two dogs. My first job was at Brown's Cafe, Central Ave and Eubank in Alb, where I got paid 75cents an hour hour to bus tables and wash dishes. What I remember most about it is hard work during the night shift at 15 yrs old. It was most difficult when the bars closed.
